Adventure | Miniseries, 2 x 90’
The magnificent legend of Troy has survived in our imaginations for over three thousand years. “The Hunt for Troy” follows the incredible, real-life adventure of the one man whose childhood passion drove him to find it.
It’s the true story of Heinrich Schliemann, whose great and heroic quest for the famous Treasure of Priam rivals the excitement of Homer’s account of the fall of Troy itself.
'The Hunt for Troy” is a modern epic story of adventure and romance, of danger and revenge. With outstanding imagery and true-to-life authenticity, the teamWorx production company will present a historically accurate account of one of the most thrilling adventures of all time.
This big-budget mini-series event brings the true story of Heinrich Schliemann and his dreams of Troy to life on a journey that spans old world Europe from Berlin to Athens and finally to the exotic shores of Ottoman Turkey.
As a young boy, Heinrich Schliemann was fascinated by Homer’s Iliad and always dreamt of discovering the ancient city of Troy. Schliemann later becomes one of the richest men in Europe through his success in the weapons trade. However, with his fascination for the legendary city undiminished, he undertakes the study of archaeology.
In 1868, he presents his plan to discover Troy to a group of top academics in Berlin, and is met with nothing more than mockery and scornful rejection. In particular, Oskar Neumann is extremely insulting.
Nonetheless, Schliemann sells off his vast empire and embarks on a quest to fulfil his life-long dream.
Heinrich Schliemann is determined to find his elusive goal, despite the contempt he encounters from the authorities on Greek antiquity who doubt the city’s very existence.
At his wish, a marriage is arranged to the much younger Greek woman Sophia, who, although still in love with another, eventually comes to respect this strange and obsessed man from another world…
Confronted by resistance, envy and intense ridicule, Schliemann and Sophia journey to the Hill of Hissarlik on the Turkish coast to begin their dig – far from where consensus had placed the magnificent treasure.
At first the excavation produces minor archaeological finds – coins, pots and statuettes.
Then the dig becomes a life or death battle. It’s not only catastrophic weather and dreaded malaria that threatens to kill the project, but spies and sabotage as well.
Behind the treacherous intrigues is Neumann, who convinces the Turkish official Pasha to help him destroy Schliemann’s dream…
Under great pressure to make a genuine find, with his workers close to rebellion, the determined Schliemann stubbornly persists - even after getting shot in the back.
Sophia gradually develops a great passion for Heinrich and begins to share his dream. The two eventually fall in love, finding a strength together that enables them to overcome all obstacles.
One day their efforts are rewarded on a scale they could never have imagined. They discover a treasure trove of gold. Schliemann and Sophia have done the impossible – they have discovered the long-lost city of Troy!
An ancient myth has been uncovered under the mists of time. The legendary Troy that the Greeks had laid siege to and burned to the ground has been uncovered, and as the exciting news rockets around the globe, a new legend is born…
“The Hunt for Troy” promises adventure, thrills, action and a love story that will leave you with an ache in your heart.
