Leon is the sole heir of a china manufacturing plant that is currently controlled by his uncle Walter. Unfortunately, Leon has neither ambition nor business sense.
Esther lives nearby with her 13 kids – 5 of her own and 8 foster children. She lives in a house that is falling apart, and even though she has the help of her father’s old farm laborer Sol, the money for repairs is lacking. The Office of Youth Welfare is demanding that she makes the house liveable for the kids, but the local bank will not give her a dime. The bankers hope that Walter will buy the land to expand his plant…
Walter comes up with the deceitful plan to send Leon to seduce Esther in order to get the land, but after being confronted by 13 kids, he flees in a panic.
Hoping to satisfy the Office of Youth Welfare, Sol starts fixing the roof. While working, he falls and is seriously injured. Leon, again finding his courage, makes another attempt with Esther and finds himself stuck with the roof repair job.
While trying to help her, Leon is also attempting to convince Esther to give up the house.
Soon the two become close and Leon moves in. Because the kids are everywhere, all his attempts at sabotage fail.
Finally, something really clicks between Leon and Esther and they end up in bed. But when she becomes aware of Leon’s real intentions, Esther throws him out. Worse yet, Sol dies from his injuries, which leaves Esther desperate.
Now her kids take matters into their own hands: when Leon was forced to leave he had left behind important plans for a new line of china and the children blackmail him – either he helps Esther or his precious documents are gone forever…
