Jackie works in a successful advertising agency and is in love with Frederik, the son of a rich and powerful family of publishers. Despite having proven herself by working her way up in the agency, she is only grudgingly accepted into the family’s elite inner circle. Frederik’s mom in particular considers Jackie unworthy of her son.
Frederik, disregarding his mother’s snobby attitude, asks Jackie to marry him. Overwhelmed with joy, she travels back home to tell her father the good news. But seeing her dad is not the only reason for her return: Jackie must confront Tom, to whom she is still married…
Tom had betrayed Jackie, who had then fled in a black cloud of anger and disappointment. Now that they face each other again, it is apparent that much of their love has survived. Still, Jackie wants Tom to finally grant her a divorce, which he is unwilling to do because he still loves her. So, she’s forced to stay longer than she had planned.
During an overnight cruise, Jackie has a bout of jealousy, gets drunk and quickly gets out of hand. Tom is so angry at her outburst that he finally agrees to the divorce. However, far from pleasing her, his consent leaves her feeling sad and lonely.
Adding to her misery is the unexpected arrival of Frederik, who is furious and hurt that Jackie has lied to him. But his love for her proves stronger than his disappointment.
Despite her strong attachment to her old home and friends, Frederik invites Jackie to accompany him back.
Although the preparations for the wedding are now in full swing, Jackie is unable to banish Tom from her thoughts. And Tom has the same problem…
