Katharina lives in a little Bavarian village. One day she receives a letter from Berlin: her son Hans wants to come home and get married. Ecstatic over the upcoming wedding, Katharina quickly spreads the news to everyone, including her ex-husband Christian.
She has never met her future daughter-in-law… and never will. It is only when Hans and his future partner arrive in the little village that Katharina is faced with the shocking reality: Hans wants to marry his boyfriend Nicki!
Wanting to keep this shattering development quiet, Katharina insists that Hans and Nicki stay at a local pension – a reaction that leaves Hans totally disappointed.
Despairing over the situation, Katharina confides in her friend Rosi and demands her secrecy. Although Katharina now tries to reconcile with the couple, she still begs them to keep the wedding secret.
The next day Hans meets his dad Christian, who is rattled to the core at the idea of a gay wedding. His new wife Vera is also unnerved by the thought, fearing that such a scandal might ruin the opening of their new car dealership.
The secret, though, is already out – someone had seen Hans and Nicki sharing an intimate moment. Now the talk of the town, Nicki and Hans face total rejection by the small-minded villagers.
That eventually leads to a brawl, and Nicki flees back to Berlin. Meanwhile, hoping to save their business, Vera circulates the lie that Christian is not Hans’ biological father.
Deeply hurt by this rumor, Hans also returns to Berlin. With everyone thrown into such emotional chaos, what could possibly get this wedding back on track?
